This is book three in the Millennium Series.
This book picks up where The Girl Who Played With Fire left off. Salander is found by Bloomkvist in her father's home. She is airlifted to the hospital where she is put in surgery immediately. The doctor has the tough job of removing the bullet without giving her permanent brain damage. After a long night of surgery, she finally got out and proceeded down the long road of recovery.
Meanwhile, the authorities in charge of Slanadar's hunt, switch their focus to finding Roger Niederman, who murdered at least 4 people, including a police officer, but with all the connections Niederman has it will be hard to find him.
But now, the hunt sets off to gather the information about "the Section", a sub-group of the Säpo, the Security Police, who performed illegal duties in the handling of the Zalanchanko affair. Everyone wants to find the information, and either publish it, or burn it. Many people of the Security Police would go to jail, and have their career tarnished. Mikael Bloomkvist is trying to do anything in his power as a trusted journalist, to make this happen.
